Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?'
This is what most Indian middles class asks themselves when their heart calls for participation in politics, when their heart asks them to be brave and oppose the bad things happening around them, when their heart calls for standing up for good. Some succumb and play safe when they think it is not safe to stand up for the right.
Expediency(self interest) asks the question, 'Is it politic?'
This is what the people who find themeselves bound in the vicious cycle of politics, caste, communal and regional affiliations ask themselves when they are forced to take a stand on issues of social and personal importance.
Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?'
This what most of the Indian media, people in popular arts like cinema are asking themselves. Instead of creating awareness in the people they tend to just remain as mediums of entertainment rather than enlightenment.
But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?'
This is what people who listen to their conscience ask; people like JP, Anna Hazare, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, and all those people who are striving hard in the background to make India a country of their dreams.
And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells ...one that it is right.
I would like to tell mey fellow Indians all over the world the time has come for us to ask what is right, ask how we can make things right, ask how we can act now to make things right.
I would like to urge you to participate in all the events extending support to people who are fighting against corruption. There is a march being orgainzed in the US, India and across the world. It is called Dandi March 2. Please participate in this march and make it a success and send a signal across to our representatives in the parliament and to the PM of India, Enough is enough, Now it is time to ACT.
